My new record, Masochists, will be released this Friday, June 2nd. If you've been following updates on this page the past two and a half months, you may have noticed that I decided to partner with PledgeMusic again for pre-orders, merch, and video updates. This time around, I didn't want to just do a traditional 'buy my album' pre-order page.
This record is inspired by, and is largely about, the times in which we are living. I've always looked at being an artist not only as a means of expression, but a a responsibility to bring attention to causes and injustices in whatever way one can. If you've watched any of the music videos and listened to any of my lyrics from the singles released so far, you've probably noticed Masochists contains overtones that are decidedly anti-Trump. So, it was very important to me to use this pre-order campaign and this album release as a way to draw attention to at least one of the causes I believe in.
Climate change is the largest existential threat to our survival - and the survival of almost every other organism on this planet - we face today. A threat, which is being ignored and exacerbated by Donald Trump and his cabinet of anti-climate fools. His threats to pull out of the Paris Agreement and the rollback of regulations so his corporate pals' stocks can go up a few points puts the future of the entire planet and all that inhabit it at risk.
The NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) is at the forefront of the fight against this administration's insane agenda, funding programs and bringing litigation against fossil fuel companies and the government itself, something they have been doing for decades.
It was very important to me to put my money where my mouth was and donate a portion of the sales from pre-orders to the NRDC. Mostly, I wanted to use it as an opportunity to raise awareness in whatever small way I could. Frankly, I don't really care if anyone buys the record. From a musical and artistic standpoint, my only goal has been to offer a few cool merch items that help tell the story of the album, hopefully inspiring some music fans to donate in the process.
So, whether you're a fan and dig the music or really could not care less, please, if you can, take a moment out of your day to visit http://nrdc.org and read about the great work everyone there is doing and consider donating if at all possible or sharing the link to their website with your circle of friends.
