We just surpassed $850 on Pledge Music, our first preliminary goal, which will fund the production of CDs and T-Shirts. You guys ROCK! In the past 24 hours we’ve received over $500 in pre-orders and are super close to our next milestone of $1,000, 10% of our $10,000 goal. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has pre-ordered so far – your generosity and support is making this album possible.
Because we have reached our preliminary production goal, limited edition, exclusive vinyl will become available tomorrow. Parkway Divides is a concept album containing two sides – Northbound and Southbound – and the design of the vinyl is inspired by vinyl records of the 1970s with a beautiful full color jacket and design. This vinyl will never be available again, so check back tomorrow if you want to pick up a copy at http://pledgemusic.com/illadvised and share the pre-order campaign with your friends and family so we can reach that $10,000 goal!
Again, thank you SO MUCH for all the pre-orders so far. I’m so excited for everyone to hear this album.

Wow, guys. So, something pretty amazing happened since I posted that letter on Facebook yesterday about pre-ordering my new album Parkway Divides. I got an e-mail from producer and mix engineer, Michael James, whose body of work includes Jane’s Addiction, New Radicals, Hole, Jawbreaker, L7, A.J. Croce, Robben Ford, and tons and tons of amazing artists. Right now he has a song out that has been #1 for the past seven consecutive weeks. Michael mixed my first single ‘Summer Nights’ and it sounds awesome – now he is offering a challenge to all my fans, friends, and family: raise $10,000 in pre-orders or donations by September 4th (2 weeks) and he will MATCH it with $10,000 in mixing, pro bono.
This is a huge opportunity for me to get this album mixed right and to really release something I will be proud of and that I know you will all love. I don’t even know what to say right now, to be honest. The e-mail itself (which you guys can see attached) has left me a little speechless. Independent artists just do not get opportunities like this. To get an album mixed by a pro like him, you usually have to be on a record label with a budget and have released a few albums. To have my debut album that I’ve been working day and night for the past year to finish this album mixed by him would be a dream come true.
I have really tried to push things as far as I can musically composing string arrangements, orchestral percussion, syncopated drum sections using drums I’ve never played before like taiko drums, tabla drums, and different types of latin percussion, and delving into new electronic boundaries experimenting with different synthesizers and electronic drums. Some of the songs have well over 100 Pro Tools tracks. I’ve tried to write lyrics that are honest and real – lyrics that I’m singing (or screaming) with all my heart. I just don’t know how to write music any other way. These songs are so incredibly important to me that most of the time I can’t even listen to them after I’ve finished recording them because it’s like looking right at your heart bleeding in front of you.
I’ve always felt like I have had to push myself harder and harder because just look at all the amazing artists and bands that have come before who released amazing albums. I’ve been given a once in a life time opportunity and if you guys can help me reach this $10,000 goal to get this album mixed, I would be forever grateful.
I don’t think I’ve ever posted anything personal on a social network – I express myself through music because that’s really the only way I know how. I’ve been working on this album called ‘Parkway Divides’ for about a year now for my band Ill-Advised…which really isn’t a band. I write, record, sing, and play every instrument on the album. I started this band when I was in high school. A lot of people told me to give it up – in fact, a lot of people told me I sucked. I took a lot of shit, but I stuck with it because these songs mean everything to me. I’m the type of person who when someone tells me I can’t do something, I work even harder. I’ve spent the past three months working until 6 AM 7 days a week, writing, recording, playing, engineering, producing, and arranging every note on this album. With only a few final overdubs to go, I’m in the home stretch.
The reality is, it costs a lot to make a record: studio time, mixing, mastering, distribution, etc. By doing everything myself in my own studio I built in my basement with the help of a few friends and my mom, I’ve been able to do as much as I can on my own – no studios, no other musicians. When I set up the Pledge Music pre-order page, I wanted to offer some cool stuff that if I were a music fan, I would think might be cool to have. The type of person I am, I don’t like asking people for things, and I never do. Thinking about using a ‘crowdfunding’ site was something I refused to even think about for a long time…it’s just not how rock bands do it. But, times have changed and no one is investing in artists, the old system of selling albums is gone, and despite the fact that bands are essentially small businesses and that in 2015, you have to be a music entrepreneur, no one will invest in a band or a label. Crowdfunding seems to be the only option.
So, I’m humbly asking you guys to pre-order my album over at PledgeMusic.com/IllAdvised if you can spare $10. There is tons of other stuff like exclusive T-Shirts, actual CDs (if you’re still into that), and vinyl that will be offered soon along with opportunities to have a part in a music video, a personalized cover song done just for you, house concerts, and a producer credit on the album that also gives you free concert tickets and VIP passes + free merch for life. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a hard worker and that I never give up, and I promise you guys that if you help me bring this album home, you won’t be disappointed.
