Hi guys!

We have some BRAND NEW exclusives available at PledgeMusic.com/IllAdvised that will help us get closer to our $10,000 goal (1200% over at the pre-order page) we’re trying to meet by September 4th! To all you guitar players and collectors out there: An ESP E-II Eclipse Cherry Sunburst ($1600 value) that was used on the album is now up for grabs. We’ve also put up an exclusive LIMITED PRINT signed Parkway Divides poster. New exclusives will be announced every day this week, so keep checking for cool pre-order merchandise!

Hi everyone!

We just surpassed $850 on Pledge Music, our first preliminary goal, which will fund the production of CDs and T-Shirts. You guys ROCK! In the past 24 hours we’ve received over $500 in pre-orders and are super close to our next milestone of $1,000, 10% of our $10,000 goal. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has pre-ordered so far – your generosity and support is making this album possible.

Because we have reached our preliminary production goal, limited edition, exclusive vinyl will become available tomorrow. Parkway Divides is a concept album containing two sides – Northbound and Southbound – and the design of the vinyl is inspired by vinyl records of the 1970s with a beautiful full color jacket and design. This vinyl will never be available again, so check back tomorrow if you want to pick up a copy at http://pledgemusic.com/illadvised and share the pre-order campaign with your friends and family so we can reach that $10,000 goal!

Again, thank you SO MUCH for all the pre-orders so far. I’m so excited for everyone to hear this album.

Love and thanks,

Harry

Producer and mixer Michael James, whose discography includes Jane’s Addiction, New Radicals, Hole, Jawbreaker, L7, Robben Ford, A.J. Croce, and more has offered a challenge to Ill-Advised fans: raise $10,000 within in the next two weeks and he will match it with $10,000 worth of mixing services.

Michael James mixed the first single, “Summer Nights,” now available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and anywhere music is streamed or sold. His mix of Kalimba’s “Estrellas Rotas” has been #1 on the charts for the past seven consecutive weeks.

To help reached the $10,000 goal, pre-order the upcoming Ill-Advised album Parkway Divides exclusively on Pledge Music by visiting PledgeMusic.com/IllAdvised.

Wow, guys. So, something pretty amazing happened since I posted that letter on Facebook yesterday about pre-ordering my new album Parkway Divides. I got an e-mail from producer and mix engineer, Michael James, whose body of work includes Jane’s Addiction, New Radicals, Hole, Jawbreaker, L7, A.J. Croce, Robben Ford, and tons and tons of amazing artists. Right now he has a song out that has been #1 for the past seven consecutive weeks. Michael mixed my first single ‘Summer Nights’ and it sounds awesome – now he is offering a challenge to all my fans, friends, and family: raise $10,000 in pre-orders or donations by September 4th (2 weeks) and he will MATCH it with $10,000 in mixing, pro bono.

This is a huge opportunity for me to get this album mixed right and to really release something I will be proud of and that I know you will all love. I don’t even know what to say right now, to be honest. The e-mail itself (which you guys can see attached) has left me a little speechless. Independent artists just do not get opportunities like this. To get an album mixed by a pro like him, you usually have to be on a record label with a budget and have released a few albums. To have my debut album that I’ve been working day and night for the past year to finish this album mixed by him would be a dream come true.

I have really tried to push things as far as I can musically composing string arrangements, orchestral percussion, syncopated drum sections using drums I’ve never played before like taiko drums, tabla drums, and different types of latin percussion, and delving into new electronic boundaries experimenting with different synthesizers and electronic drums. Some of the songs have well over 100 Pro Tools tracks. I’ve tried to write lyrics that are honest and real – lyrics that I’m singing (or screaming) with all my heart. I just don’t know how to write music any other way. These songs are so incredibly important to me that most of the time I can’t even listen to them after I’ve finished recording them because it’s like looking right at your heart bleeding in front of you.

I’ve always felt like I have had to push myself harder and harder because just look at all the amazing artists and bands that have come before who released amazing albums. I’ve been given a once in a life time opportunity and if you guys can help me reach this $10,000 goal to get this album mixed, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you so much,

Harry

Studio Update: March Madness

I’ve decided to start posting regular “studio updates” about the progress of the upcoming record. Those of you who already follow the band or are other independent musicians and bands might find these posts interesting as I will be writing about the different challenges I face and the methods I have been using to record an album in my home studio.

With the tentative release date for the record later this fall, I’ve kicked things into overdrive hitting the studio every single day in between classes. The record has been narrowed down to eleven songs from over thirty and I’m largely happy with how this group of songs are turning out. Every song has a unique sound and perspective lyrically and the more I listen to them the more they begin to fit a storyline or concept. Recording this album is like re-experiencing the past few years of my life and in the most general sense, I think it’s an album about growing up.

Luckily, I have been given the opportunity to record at my University’s studio which I am utilizing to track vocals. There is something to be said for a well-treated room when it comes to recording vocals – and a nice pre-amp. So far, I’m really happy with the results and it’s great to have other people involved to break up the monotony that working in a home studio, largely self-contained, can create. I’ve been pushing myself beyond my limits vocally and I’m psyched to say that it’s paying off.

Anyway, my 15 minute break is up – time to get back to mixing. I’ll occasionally post clips and updates on the Ill-Advised Instagram @illadvisedband and my personal account so feel free to check that out if you’re so inclined.

Until next time…
